All Kids Are Our Kids Scholarship
The New Canaan YMCA believes that all members of the community have shared responsibility for raising healthy children, providing them with the support and experiences they need to become caring, competent adults. The Y’s Annual Support Campaign allows us to continue responding to our community’s changing needs in truly meaningful ways, and one component is the our annual “All Kids Are Our Kids” Scholarship.
Recipient Criteria
The “All Kids Are Our Kids” College Scholarship was established to encourage a high school senior to pursue college education. Scholarship recipients will be selected on the following basis:
- Academic potential
- Work experience
- Candidate embodies YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
- Actively volunteers or demonstrates community leadership
- Statement of career and educational goals
- Financial need
- Personal recommendations
Preference is given to individuals who have an established relationship with the New Canaan YMCA (e.g., volunteer, employee, or frequent program participant).
Award
A total award of $5,000 will be made to a deserving recipient. The scholarship will be awarded in increments of up to $2,500 dependent upon recipient’s ability to maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA. Failure to meet these requirements will result in a forfeit of the scholarship; however, appeals may be made to the selection committee.
Application Process
Applications will be reviewed by a Board-led selection committee in May of each year, and all applicants will be notified of the final decision by June. Applicants must fully complete an application prior to the published deadline and be willing to receive their award at a YMCA Board meeting or other event.
