Melisa’s Message: February is Heart Month

Melisa’s Message: February is Heart Month

Happy HEART Month! Show your heart some LOVE this February!  Stop by or schedule your heart health check-up with Melisa Pelikan, Wellness Nurse Coordinator with Stamford Health on Tuesdays in February (9am to 12noon).  Get your blood pressure checked, and see where you stand with the 8 essential components of heart disease prevention.  Want to schedule a specific time?  Email Melisa at [email protected]

On February 26, join us for our Heart Fair to connect with Stamford Health Cardiovascular services, ask a clinician about heart disease prevention and treatment, have your blood pressure taken, and listen to Dr. Mario Gioia present topics on cardiovascular health at 12:00 PM and 12:30 PM.

On February 28, our New Canaan Library friend, Heather Cimino, will meet us here at the Y in the Williams Room for our Health and Wellness Book group.  We’ll talk about Nick Trenton’s book Stop Overthinking.  What does this have to do with the heart, you say? High levels of cortisol from chronic or long-term stress can cause high blood cholesterol, along with other heart disease risks.  Reduce your stress to keep your heart healthy! Free and open to the community! Advance registration required, click here to register.

And we will wrap up the month by hearing about heart healthy nutrition from Stamford Health nutritionist Christine Silkowitz, RD, CDN at the Foreverwell Luncheon on February 29. Free and open to the community! Advance registration required, click here to register.

So enjoy loved ones, and loving your heart this month!
