Facility Update: The Y is closing early at 6:00 PM on Friday, December 13.
Volunteers are vital to our Y, and by opening up your heart and extending your hand to our Y community, you will be changing the lives of so many. Each year, over 500 people of all ages contribute their time and talents as volunteers at the New Canaan YMCA.
There are so many ways to give back to others through the New Canaan YMCA. Volunteers help us further our mission and strengthen our ability to serve our community. There are opportunities to volunteer in different departments throughout the Y, serving all different ages, interests, and needs. We work with our volunteers and their schedules to ensure their experience is enjoyable, manageable, and meaningful. Whether it’s an hour a month, an hour a week, or a one-time event, there’s no better way to give back to the community than volunteering at the Y!
To volunteer, please contact Ida Marchetti, Assistant Director of Human Resources, at [email protected].
Children from 6 weeks to 12 years of age benefit from Y childcare. Examples of volunteer opportunities including leading songs, reading stories, and helping with homework.
Bouncing Bears is a preschool movement and gym class for children ages 1-5. Volunteers assist staff to provide a fun experience for some of our youngest members. Class activities include group circle time, singing, and movement fun.
Volunteering with our youth sports is a great opportunity to combine a love of sports and kids. Volunteers can always be used to help provide additional instruction and support to our young athletes.
The New Canaan YMCA’s Youth Basketball League (Y-ball) program is an incredibly popular community program for kids to enjoy basketball in a fun and supportive environment. The program is made possible by parent and community volunteers who serve as coaches and lead weekly practices and games.
Middle School Night and Youth @ the Y are monthly programs where kids and middle schoolers get to take over the Y on Saturday night, providing a safe, fun, and healthy night out with friends. Volunteers are always welcome to help make these evenings even more fun for our community’s kids and help with leading activities.
The New Canaan YMCA has one of the most robust special needs programs among Ys across the country. Volunteering within our special needs programs is an incredibly meaningful experience for both our volunteers and our program participants. Volunteers provide support during our programs or special events, helping our participants to build confidence, develop skills, make friends, and have fun!
Summer camp at the Y is so much fun…and volunteers make it even more so! Volunteers can help us with maintaining our campsite, leading camp activities, and helping to contribute to memories that our campers make that last a lifetime.
At the Y we bring people together and we’re always looking for more ways to accomplish this. If you have an idea for a club that you would like to lead, please contact our Membership Director, George Bennett at [email protected].
Trying a new class can sometimes be intimidating. Group exercise ambassadors are opportunities for members who love attending classes to help others find that passion as well! Ambassadors help new class participants feel comfortable, welcome, and empowered.
Volunteers are always appreciated to help out behind the scenes to help with administrative tasks. Administrative volunteers have the opportunity to help our Y run smoothly and efficiently.
We love making people smile when they walk through our doors…and that’s exactly what our volunteer greeters help accomplish! Volunteer greeters welcome members as they enter the facility and contribute to the welcoming and friendly environment at our Y.
We hold a variety of special events throughout the year and can always use extra hands to help make the events run smoothly and provide a great experience for our community members.
We’re so proud of our facility and all that it makes possible for our community. From carpentry to painting to landscaping, there’s always something to be done around the Y and volunteers can help!
If you are looking to fulfill a community service requirement, we’ll work with you to identify a volunteer opportunity that can help you meet your requirements and be a meaningful experience.
Absolutely! If there is a volunteer opportunity not listed here that you think our Y could benefit from, please contact Ida Marchetti, Assistant Director of Human Resources, at [email protected].
