Y Awards $200,000 in Financial Assistance Thanks to Community Support

The New Canaan YMCA is proud to announce that thanks to the generous support of donations, the organization awarded over $200,000 in financial assistance this past year, continuing its commitment that every individual and has the opportunity to benefit from the Y regardless of financial circumstances.

One recent financial assistance recipient shared, “Life has thrown some unexpected challenges our way. Financially, it has been a difficult time for my family and me to navigate. Your generous donations have bettered our lives! My family and I can stay in great shape and prioritize our health with a membership at the Y, which helps lessen the daily stresses we encounter. This past summer, my daughter came home from camp each day overjoyed, having an amazing time.”

She added, Thanks to your support, not only will I be able to enroll both of my children in camp next summer, but we also will be able to thrive as a family at the Y throughout the year. We are so grateful for your generosity and thank you for making a memorable difference in our lives!”

Financial assistance provides opportunities for hundreds of individuals and families each year at the New Canaan YMCA regardless of background, income, or need. Donations to the Y make it possible to provide financial support for memberships, benefiting families and individuals of all ages from kids to seniors, along with assistance for program fees.

The New Canaan YMCA financial assistance program is made possible by donations to the Y and creates opportunity for hundreds of individuals and families to thrive through membership and programs regardless of background, income, or need. This financial support makes a meaningful difference in the lives of many, providing adults with the opportunity to maintain both physical and mental health, providing seniors with the opportunity to remain physically active and socially connected, providing safe and reliable childcare to working families, and providing children with the opportunity to build confidence and character, make lasting friendships, develop healthy habits, and have fun through programs such as swim lessons, summer camp, sports, social activities, competitive teams, special needs programs, and leadership opportunities.

“The Y’s financial assistance program helps to further the Y’s mission of enriching all people in spirit, mind, and body,” said New Canaan YMCA’s Executive Director, Margaret Riley. “We are incredibly grateful to our donors who generously fund this initiative, which enables our Y to serve as a true source of community—fully inclusive, supportive, and attainable to all.”
