Congratulations to our Aquianas synchronized swimmers who brought home the Junior East Zone high point trophy from the East Zone Junior-Senior Championships, held March 7-9 in Endicott, N.Y.

The Aquianas have won the trophy for 13 out of the last 14 years.  Additionally this year, Assistant Synrchonized Swimming Director, Krista Bessinger, was named East Zone Coach of the Year.

The Aquianas beat out 13 regional teams to win, amassing the most number of points for routines swim in the finals, which encompassed four categories: team routines, trios, duets and solos.

Competing in initial fields of 20-plus routines in each category, New Canaan placed in the top three slots for three of the four categories. Aquianas routines took first place in the team event and trio event.

The winning team routine featured Diya Banerjee, Alice Chidley, Renee Collett, Alie Lin, Isabella Montgomery, Alex Poteet, Emily Roney, and Erin Wheeler. Collett, Roney and Wheeler also swam the first-place trio, while the pairing of Wheeler and Collett placed second in duets.

“This win was truly a team effort, with so many strong performances contributing to our total points,” head coach Jen Muzyk said. “Our swimmers took four slots in the top eight for both solos and duets, and three slots in the top eight for trios. The second of our two squads also placed in the top eight in the team competition.”
