In addition to our free member drop-in classes, our Y also offers a variety of private and small-group fitness programs for an additional fee that can help you reach your wellness goals. Programs are led by certified trainers and instructors and include personal training, small-group training, and Pilates apparatus.
New Canaan YMCA Personal Trainers are here to help guide and support you as you work towards your goals. Whether you are new to exercise, need motivation and encouragement, or are looking for some new ideas to help you reach your goals, our trainers are able to design an individualized program to best suit your needs.
We realize that the trainer-client relationship is an important one in which the right dynamic is important. Our Y has a caring, talented group of trainers with a variety of different backgrounds and strengths for you to choose from to help you find the right fit. All of our trainers hold certification from nationally recognized certifying organizations, including ACSM, NSCA, NASM, AFAA, and ACE. Personal training sessions can be private or semi-private, providing you with the opportunity to benefit from personal training with a friend.
To get started, please fill out the Pre-Exercise Questionnaire for Personal Training form below and return the packet to the Front Desk. Your questionnaire will be reviewed by the Y’s Wellness Director and matched to one of our qualified Personal Trainers. The trainer will then contact you to set up your training sessions.

Pilates Apparatus classes are in addition to our drop-in Pilates Mat classes, which are offered in our Pilates Apparatus Studio. Pilates Apparatus is an excellent exercise option for adults of all ages and abilities from top athletes to people just starting a workout regimen. Using Pilates Apparatus helps you to develop flexibility and good posture by focusing on your “core,” or center, predominantly your abdominals, back, and legs. The machines are elevated off the ground and provide resistance or assistance as needed to the exerciser.
