Melisa’s Monthly Message: Mammograms… and More

In addition to rich autumn color tones, pink has become the color of October. According to the CDC, cancer is the second leading cause of death in American women. We recognize the importance of screening for breast cancer, which has more favorable outcomes if detected and treated early.

Breast Cancer Prevention:

• Understand your risk factors

• Perform monthly breast self-exams

• Get your mammogram!

The CDC also reports the leading cause of death in women is heart disease.  Did you know that women are much more likely to experience less common symptoms of a heart attack? Women may manifest symptoms as indigestion, shortness of breath, and back pain, sometimes even in the absence of obvious chest discomfort.

Stay well, and stay informed!

Melisa,

Y Wellness Nurse Coordinator
