The New Canaan Garden Club hosted a spring flower arranging workshop at the New Canaan YMCA on Wednesday, April 23, as part of the Y’s ForeverWell senior lunch and learn event series.
Led by New Canaan Garden Club’s Floral Design Chairs Jane Shoenholtz, Claire Salvatore, and Denise Coco, the workshop featured a variety of flowers and vases for 25 ForeverWell participants to design flower arrangements to take home. Shoenholtz, Salvatore, and Coco shared best practices for arranging flowers, including where to cut stems depending on vase size, removing leaves for longevity, and taping vases to hold flowers in place.

The New Canaan YMCA thanks the New Canaan Garden Club for volunteering their time and expertise at this meaningful event for its senior members.
The New Canaan YMCA’s ForeverWell program is designed to benefit the total health of its senior members through a variety of opportunities to get active, stay fit, and be social at the Y. The Y’s active adult members can get active by participating in drop-in sports and volunteering opportunities across the Y’s departments. They can also stay fit through a variety of fitness opportunities, including working out individually or with a personal trainer in the Y’s fitness center, swimming in the Y’s aquatics center, and participating in various group exercise classes designed specifically for healthy aging.
The Y’s senior members can also find social connection at the Y through the program’s monthly lunch and learn enrichment events that offer opportunities to connect with old and new friends, learn new things, and share stories and skills. Throughout the year, many local organizations and businesses partner with the Y’s ForeverWell program to inform, enrich, and bring the community together. Over the last year, Y participants have had the pleasure of enjoying presentations from the Bristow Bird Sanctuary, Carriage Barn Arts Center, Planet New Canaan, Stamford Health, Staying Put in New Canaan, New Canaan Garden Club, New Canaan Historical Society, and New Canaan Police, among others.
